At least 34 people were killed and 96 others wounded in a suicide bombing targeting a passenger train in Quetta, according to local sources, though Pakistani authorities have not yet officially confirmed the casualty figures.
Pakistani media reported that the explosion occurred Sunday near the Chaman railway crossing in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, as a passenger train was passing through the area.
The blast damaged the train, derailed several carriages and triggered a fire near the railway track, while emergency teams transported wounded passengers to hospitals across the city.
The suicide attack was claimed by the Majeed Brigade, a unit linked to the Baloch Liberation Army, according to Pakistani media reports.
Hospitals in Quetta declared an emergency and called in additional medical staff as rescue operations continued late into Sunday.
Pakistan has experienced a surge in militant violence in recent months, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where separatist and militant groups frequently target security forces and public infrastructure.
Earlier this weekend, clashes between Pakistani security forces and armed militants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district reportedly killed at least 29 people, underscoring growing security instability across northwestern Pakistan.
